Every picture here came off one of our own sites. A shorter honest gallery beats a long one padded out with library shots of houses in Ohio, which is what a startling number of roofing galleries turn out to be once you look closely at the windows.
Solid Tiled Roof - Completed
A tired polycarbonate conservatory roof replaced with a fully insulated solid tiled roof, hipped on all four sides and finished with new fascia, soffit and guttering to match the bungalow.
The Same Roof, In Its Street
Worth seeing in context. The pitch and the colour were chosen to sit correctly against the neighbouring roofs rather than to stand out, which matters more on a bungalow street than people expect.
New Slate Roof With Roof Windows
A rear extension roof slated and detailed, with two roof windows set in and flashed and lead dressed into the abutment. That junction against the existing house wall is where this kind of roof leaks if it is rushed.
Lean-To Slate Roof & Lead Abutment
Slate laid to even courses with the lead flashing chased and dressed properly into the render above. Done in lead rather than a mortar fillet, because a fillet on that line cracks within a couple of winters.
New Fascias, Soffits & Guttering
Boards stripped out and replaced, with the guttering rehung to a proper fall towards the outlet rather than refitted to the old bracket holes. uPVC here removes a repainting cycle that sea air makes relentless.
Gutter, Downpipe & Abutment Detail
The end of the same run, where the lower roof meets the main house. New downpipe taken to the gully, and lead worked into the tile course above it. Small details, and the ones that decide whether a roof edge lasts.
Rafters & Breathable Membrane
Breathable membrane going on over fresh rafters. It vents moisture out of the roof space while keeping weather on the outside, a trick the old bitumen felt never managed - and something that counts double beneath a shallow pitch.
Battens & Membrane Detail
The same roof closer in, showing the membrane laps and batten spacing. The lap is what keeps wind-driven rain out when it gets under a slate, and it is the first thing a rushed job gets wrong.

Mid-job on a new roof structure with the roof windows already set in. Photographs like this are less tidy than a finished shot and rather more representative of the work.
Roof Windows In A Vaulted Ceiling
Two roof windows set into a vaulted ceiling and lined out. The flashing kit around one of these has to go on precisely the way its maker specifies - get it approximately right and it will let water past, and no quantity of sealant afterwards will ever undo that.

Another angle on the tiled roof job. Replacing polycarbonate with a solid insulated roof turns a room that was too hot in July and unusable in January into one you can actually use all year.
There Will Be More
The honest problem with photographing repairs is that a good one is invisible. A fresh lead soaker or newly bedded flaunching photographs as a roof, which is rather the point of it. Before-and-after pairs are being collected as jobs come through and will land on this page as they are finished.
